All library locations accept donations of books, DVDs, videocassettes, and music and audiobook CDs. Materials are evaluated for inclusion in the collection and items not added are given to the Friends of the Torrance Library for their book sales. At this time, the Friends are NOT accepting magazines, audio-cassettes and encyclopedias. Please be advised that once items are donated, they become the property of the Library and/or the Friends - there are no restrictions upon how and where they are used.
Large donations should be dropped off during hours the Library is open at the loading dock behind the Civic Center Library (located in the driveway between the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library and the Victor Benstead Plunge). Press the call button to the left of the door; library staff is available to unload and bring materials into the building. There is also a large bin right inside the entrance door at the Civic Center Library where you may place your donations. Receipts are provided for individuals that wish to claim a deduction for tax filing.
For questions regarding donation of materials (books, DVDs, etc) or book sales, please contact the Friends of the Library at (310) 781-7595. If no one answers, please leave a message and a volunteer will return your call as soon as possible.
Can I donate money or other items to the Library?
The Torrance Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization that is led by community leaders whose goal is to raise money for needed construction and renovation projects, as well as enhanced library services and programs. The Foundation solicits memberships and accepts cash gifts, as well as funds through bequests from wills or trusts, life insurance, and retirement plans. A membership application is available online at the Foundation's website and in their brochure available at all library locations. Please telephone Foundation President, Keri Gilbert, or the City Librarian at (310) 618-5950 for more information.
